Qualification of Teachers

The main task of PCCC's foreign teachers is to help the students in oral English. Teachers having English as their mother tongue should not have any problems to qualify. PCCC will accept bilingual speaker as English teacher if he/she lives in an English speaking country no less than half of the time starting from the age of seven. (Hong Kong is not considered as an English speaking city.) Person who lives in non-English speaking country but with parents who speak only English and no local language is also acceptable.

The Chinese government will only accept people with a bachelor's degree as teachers in China and work permits can only be obtained for teachers with a bachelor's degree.

It is not required that the teachers to have any work experience or teaching experience. However, if a person has worked in a third world country even for a few weeks will adjust to life in China more easily and hence preferred.

Knowledge in the Chinese language is definitely NOT needed. PCCC prefers to have English teachers who speak no Chinese. (PCCC offers tutoring of Mandarin to all foreign teachers and most teachers in the past had managed to learn enough Chinese to get along in China.)

It is also helpful to the school and the students if a teacher can coach basketball, football or any kind of sports. Folk dancing and singing are also tools that one can use to close the gap between teachers and students.

Some knowledge in the use of computer or network will also help. Teachers can offer to teach other courses instead of English.
